TOUR ITINERARY (8.00 - 16.30)
This most comprehensives tour to the center of Javanese culture and traditions. Begins with a visit KRATON, the palace compound of the Sultans of Yogyakarta.
Even tough the Kraton is no longer the seat of power, it is still the hub of Yogyakarta's traditional life emanating the spirit of refinement, which has been the hallmark of Yogya's art for centuries.
Built in 1775, it is a vast complex of courtyards, halls and pavilions in fine Javanese architecture where court retainers wear traditional dress of Batik sarong, tight jacket, batik headwear and a Kris. It houses the royal collection of magnificent bejeweled leather wayang puppets, the royal carriages, and many ornaments of European and Indonesian origin.
(On Mondays when the Museum is closed, a visit to the Water castle will be made instead)
Then you'll visit BATIK to see the intricate processing of the Batik; from designing, waxing, dyeing, and cleaning, until the cloth is ready for use.
Lunch will be served at Sekar Kedaton , Kotagede.
And finally, to the center of the fine Javanese silverworks, where at one of the workshops you can watch the hammering, beating, cleaning and polishing of the precious metal into elegant and superb pieces art known as "Yogyakarta Silver".

The tour is also cover to visit IMOGIRI, the official cemetery of the royal descendants from Yogyakarta and Surakarta. The royal graveyard is located on a hilltop, reachable by 345 stone steps leading to it. The tombs are built within three main courtyards.
Entry into the smaller courtyards housing the tombs of the princes is allowed, but only on Monday 09.00 - 12.00 and Friday 13.00- 16.00 traditional Javanese dress has to be worn, which however can be hired on the spot at a modest fee. The cemetery is closed during the Moslem month of Ramadhan.
